Hello all and Thank You for taking the time to browse through my website.I am Shanika Covington, some call me Cake Diva, Cake Girl, Cake Lady,or Nika.I am a wife of 12 years to a wonderful man, a mother of two great boys, and the one and only designer behind these “couture works of art”.

I get alot of questions from clients, aspiring cake artists, and just admirers of the art of cake design.While this post is long overdue here’s the answers to the most FAQ about me.

1.Q:How long have you been decorating/ what made you start?

A:I have been decorating cakes as a hobby for about 8 years now.I started out doing regular sheets cakes when I couldn’t seem to find that perfect cake for my son’s birthday because the ordinary grocery store cake just would not do! Two years ago I decided to venture into the world of 2Dimensional Carved/3Dimensional Sculpted Cakes, at times 3D cakes cake be stressful with the whole process of making sure it’s stable and will not fall over when it’s all said and done and the client see’s his/her personal creation it makes it all worth it and I can’t resist a good challenge :).Sometimes I miss doing the basic sheet cakes because it’s so much work put into creating a custom cake.(Some parts have to be made weeks in advance to have time to fully dry hard,you have to make the fondant,gumpaste,and icings,and assemble and carve the actual cake design) I love what I do think it’s “fun” and would not change a thing.I’m a firm believer in the saying “Love what you do and you will never work a day in your life”

2.Q:Have you ever taken any classes?

A: Other than a Food Occupation class in high school I have NEVER taken a cake decorating class.I have learned everything I know in the cake decorating field by reading books and browsing the world wide web.

3.Q: Do you instruct classes?

A: At the current moment I am not offering classes, but in the near future I will be offering classes/internships.Interested? If so,Send a email to my inbox with “CLASSES” in the subject line and as soon as classes are available you will be contacted.
